We hosted a pot luck thanksgiving dinner at our house this year with a bunch of friends from our department. In total, we had ten people: Megan, Gal, Stefan, Bobby, Brandon, Laura, Marek, Jana, Philipp, and myself. As you’d expect, we had a lot of good food: biscuits, pumpkin bread, spinach spread on toast, cubed beets and turnips, mixed vegies, potatoes au gratin, sweet potato soup, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, and apple pie. Oh, and a turkey too.
This was my first thanksgiving in Amherst, and the first time anyone in our house roasted a turkey. We stuffed it with fresh sage, thyme, and rosemary, then coated the outside with butter and dried herbs. We placed it in a roasting pan with a half inch or so of chicken broth. Since almost everyone was happy to take home leftovers, I think it worked out well.
After thoroughly stuffing ourselves we played a game of Cranium. Wildness ensued as you would expect, with the most offensive probably being Bobby miming out the Berlin Wall and Moby Dick. Good times.
