Independence Day

On July 4th, Megan, Gal and I had a picnic lunch at the top of Mt. Holyoke. Unfortunately the weather was quite cloudy, so the views weren’t as nice as normal, but at least it didn’t rain on us. At the top of the mountain is an old hotel which used to be quite the hot spot, hosting guests like Abe Lincoln and some famous opera singer whose name I forget. The state turned the area into a park in the 40s, and it is now a small museum. We toured the hotel, had some sandwiches, and wandered along the ridge for a bit, enjoying the scenery.

I had been to the top of the mountain once before, about a year ago with Nic and Alison. That time we went in the winter, and we had to trudge up to the top, at times through about eight inches of snow. It was right after a storm, so the trees were still beautifully coated with ice and snow.

On our way home from Mt. Holyoke, Gal, Megan and I stopped at Flavors, one of the best ice cream places around. The ice cream is so good because it comes from 2 foot tall miniature cows (see below). We also found that the cows also love the taste of ice cream. Delicious!
